Chelsea have reached a ‘crucial stage’ in talks with Rennes to sign Edouard Mendy, according to reports.

Blues boss Frank Lampard is understood to be on the lookout for a new goalkeeper having lost faith in Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The Spaniard became the club’s record signing when he joined in a £71.6million deal from Athletic Bilbao in 2018.

After helping Chelsea win the Europa League in his debut season, he struggled for form in the 2019/20 campaign.
Journalist Kevin Palmer claims Mendy, who only joined Rennes last year, could be Chelsea’s next big summer arrival.

He said: “I'm hearing that Rennes keeper Edouard Mendy could be the next big arrival at Chelsea as talks reach a crucial stage… but he is not their only goalkeeper option this summer.”

Chelsea have already brought in Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell in what has been a busy summer in west London.
